This policy explains what we collect through y2jcpa.com, why we collect it, where it goes, how long we keep it, and how to ask us to delete it. It is written in plain language on purpose. If anything here is unclear, email yaacov@y2jcpa.com and ask.
Y2J Tax Advisory is the practice of Yaacov Jacob, CPA (New York), providing US tax preparation and advisory services, largely to Americans living in Israel.
The short version
- We only collect what you type into one of our two forms. We do not sell it, and we do not share it for advertising.
- Submissions go to our email and to a private Notion workspace that only we can access.
- Our tax calculators and wizards send us nothing at all. Everything you enter into them stays in your own browser.
- Please do not put Social Security numbers, taxpayer identification numbers, bank or brokerage account numbers, or passwords into a website form. We will collect those through a secure channel once we are working together.
- You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email us and we will action it.
What we collect, and when
Our forms. We collect information only when you choose to fill in the become-a-client form or the consultation form. Depending on the form, that can include your name, email address, phone number, citizenship, family situation, the type of service you are asking about, how you heard about us, and whatever you write in the free-text boxes describing your situation.
We ask about things like foreign accounts, equity compensation and residency because they determine whether we are the right fit and what an engagement would involve. You decide how much detail to give. If you would rather describe your situation in general terms at this stage, that is completely fine.
Our calculators and wizards. The tools at y2jcpa.com/tools run entirely inside your browser. They have no server component. Nothing you type into them is transmitted to us, saved to an account, or stored anywhere outside your own device. Closing the tab discards it.
Basic technical information. Like any website, our hosting provider processes standard request information, including your IP address, in order to serve pages and to protect the site from automated abuse. We use your IP address only to rate-limit form submissions so bots cannot flood our forms.
Where your information goes
When you submit a form, the contents are:
- emailed to us through Microsoft 365, so we receive it in our mailbox; and
- saved to a private Notion database that we use to keep track of enquiries so nothing gets lost.
That is the whole list. We do not pass your information to advertisers, data brokers or marketing platforms, and we do not sell it. If your situation later requires us to work with your Israeli accountant or another adviser, we will coordinate with them as part of the engagement, with your knowledge.
Because Microsoft and Notion are US-based providers, information you send us will be stored on servers outside Israel. Submitting a form means you are content for it to be handled this way.
Please do not send sensitive identifiers through this site
A website form is the wrong place for a Social Security number, an ITIN, a bank or brokerage account number, a copy of a passport, or any password. Email is not a secure channel for that kind of information, and we would rather it never travelled that way at all.
Please leave those details out of the form. Once we are engaged we will give you a secure way to send documents. If you have already sent something sensitive through the site and would like it removed, email us and we will delete it.
How long we keep it
If you become a client, we keep your information for as long as we act for you, and afterwards for as long as professional and legal record-keeping obligations require.
If you do not become a client, we keep the enquiry for up to two years, since prospective clients often come back in a later tax year and it saves you repeating yourself. You can ask us to delete it sooner, at any time, and we will.
Your choices
Email yaacov@y2jcpa.com and you can ask us to tell you what we hold about you, correct something that is wrong, delete what we hold (except where we are required to retain it), or stop contacting you. Depending on where you live, local privacy law may give you these rights formally. We intend to honour them regardless of where you are.
Submitting a form does not make us your accountant
Sending an enquiry through this site does not create a CPA-client relationship, does not create a confidential professional engagement, and does not oblige us to accept the work. An engagement begins only when we have both agreed to it in writing. Until then, please do not rely on us to meet a filing deadline on your behalf.
Nothing on this website, including the calculators and the articles, is tax advice for your specific situation.
Security
We protect our forms against automated abuse and injection attempts, and access to our mailbox and Notion workspace is restricted to us and protected by multi-factor authentication. No method of transmitting information over the internet is completely secure, which is the reason for the request above about sensitive identifiers.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and the date at the top. Material changes to how we use existing information will be flagged rather than made quietly.
